Dear Friends, peace,
Rushing to get this letter out before summer takes over! I hope you are well. Here at CANELA we have been very busy…
During LENT we organized our used-shoes drive again to help the homeless at Father Pablo’s parish in Mexico City. On Holy Thursday they washed hundreds of pairs of feet and gave out a new pair of shoes to each participant: see the pictures!
Our work to provide a steady income for very poor priests in Latin America and Africa is growing. We hope to open a new office in Mexico this month to be able to help even more priests, especially by starting a group health insurance policy for them so that they can get medical attention without the fear of getting into crippling debt. Please say a prayer for this intention.
Speaking of prayers, thanks to all those who have been praying for the new branches of the School of the Faith in Africa. Since I last wrote, the School has begun giving classes on a grand scale in the Archdiocese of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, as well as in the dioceses of Soroti (Uganda), Arusha (Tanzania) and Jalingo (in violence-ridden northern Nigeria). Keep up the prayers, there are several more dioceses about to take the first step!
We are also planning the sowing of this year’s chili crop in northwest Mexico. I am trying to convince the team to invest in about twenty new acres: they are wary because of all the disasters we went through during the pandemic. But last year the harvest was excellent and I want to get more unemployed farmers back to work. We’ll see what Providence has in store…
Finally, have a look at the invitation to my 25th profession anniversary. It’s been a bumpy road, very worth celebrating, and I hope all of you will join me spiritually and from afar on the 9th of September.
I am praying for you,
Fr. Robert
